The BerkSports app is a free app for iPhone and Android, in use at BerkSports in Hoofddorp since the end of 2024. It shows today's session, more than 85 exercises with explanations, and for each exercise your weights and repetitions with your full history. Almost every member uses it.

What is in the BerkSports app?
The BerkSports app contains the session of the day, every exercise with an explanation, and your own weights. There are more than 85 exercises, from Arnold Press and Battle Rope Waves to Romanian Deadlift, Hip Thrust and Kettlebell Swing. The app is made for BerkSports members: no adverts and no complicated screens.
- Today's session, with an explanation of each part
- More than 85 exercises, each with an explanation
- Your weight and repetitions per exercise, with the history of earlier sessions
- Challenges in which teams compete against each other
The sessions in the app are written by Ricardo Berkhout, owner of and coach at BerkSports. How a session in a small group works is explained on the page about small group training at BerkSports.
How does the app help you get stronger?
With the BerkSports app you can see, for each exercise, which weight you used last time and how it has changed over time. So at every session you know where to start, and you can see in black and white whether you are getting stronger.
Before the end of 2024, BerkSports kept track of progress on paper. The exercises and weights were written on a sheet in a folder, and those sheets ended up everywhere. Because a session no longer has to fit on a single sheet of A4, many exercises have been added since the app arrived.

What are the challenges in the app?
The BerkSports app has challenges in which teams of members compete against each other. One example: which team rows the most metres in 50 minutes? A challenge like that turns an ordinary session into a small competition, and you train that little bit harder for your team.
What do a member and a coach think of the app?
BerkSports members mainly use the app to keep track of their weights, and for the coaches it saves preparation time. Two of them explain how that works in practice.
I was always losing my sheet of paper and I did most exercises by feel. With the app I can track my progress far more precisely, and you notice the difference.
I used to lose a lot of time preparing sessions, then writing them out, printing them and handing them round. Now everyone can simply see the session in the app, and I can spend more time helping and coaching.
Frequently asked questions about the BerkSports app
Is the BerkSports app free?
Yes. The BerkSports app is free to download and use, and it contains no adverts. You download it from the App Store or Google Play, register, and can immediately see your session and your weights. Almost every BerkSports member uses it.
Does the app work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. The BerkSports app is available for iPhone (in the App Store) and for Android phones (in Google Play). The links to both are at the bottom of this page and in the website footer, under "Apps for members". You use the same app with the same data on either phone.
Is my data stored securely?
Yes. Your weights and history are stored securely in the BerkSports database, not just on your phone. If you switch to a new phone, you log in again and everything is there. How BerkSports handles personal data is described in the BerkSports privacy policy.
Do I have to use the app?
No. The app is a tool, not an obligation. The session of the day is also on display in the gym, and the BerkSports coach guides you either way. If you do use the app, the advantage is that last time's weights are ready for you straight away.
What is the difference with the Virtuagym app?
The Virtuagym app is where you plan your classes: you sign up there for a session from the BerkSports class schedule. The BerkSports app shows what you do in that session: the exercises, the explanations and your own weights. Members use the two apps side by side.
